This past Sunday, teams from across the state of Pennsylvania gathered for one of the closest fought quiz tournaments I’ve ever encountered. The National History Bowl swung through the area once again, and several local Philadelphia teams competed. Some highlight games:
Henderson 240–Great Valley 200: This tit-for-tat match was tied after both the first and third quarter. Henderson emerged with a momentum boosting pop culture Buzz on Nick Luca’s deep knowledge of comic books, and held on for a victory.
West Chester East 280–Lehigh Valley Academy 270: Alex Schmidt found a teammate, and despite a fiery hot start with a quick 70-20 lead, was unable to hold of a solid, well round East Squad. The two teams combined to answer every bonus question they heard.
Emmaus 280–West Chester East 270: This was the tournament final. In another back and forth battle, Emmaus pulled in from behind to squeak out a last question victory over the West Chester squad.
Congratulations to Emmaus for their win and East for their runner up performance. We also commend Joe Mariano of East for a thrilling one question win over Emmaus’ Ryan Bilger in the history bee portion of the day. It was also good to see Henderson and Great Valley make the playoffs. Keep up the good work, area squads!
